CLONDUFF PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Mission Statement
|
The leadership of our church seek to:
‘Bring Glory to God and serve the community through biblically based living. Presenting Jesus Christ as our only means of salvation’
They seek to present Jesus Christ as the only means whereby man can be reconciled to God and so have a personal relationship with our Creator and Heavenly Father. It is only through putting your trust in Jesus Christ and repenting of our sin that we may one day dwell in heaven with Him. We also seek to assure people that through living according to His Word (The Bible containing the old and new testaments) we can live life to the full (John 10:10) and see others put their trust in Christ and brought into the safety of the Kingdom.
Purpose and objectives.
Clonduff Presbyterian Church exists to lead people to saving faith in Jesus, to bring them to maturity within the fellowship, and to encourage them to worship God in Spirit and in Truth, and with lives of service.
This involves our 5 core purposes:
Evangelism,
Discipleship,
Fellowship,
Worship
And Service
"It is the aim of the leadership to create a warm, welcoming, living, loving fellowship of God's people."
Service Format – morning worship.
The preaching of the Word of God is central to all our services and the eldership of the congregation seek to uphold the doctrine which ensures that ‘we preach Christ crucified,’ and that all who attend worship will be brought face to face with the call of Christ on their lives and their need to be ‘born again’ of the Spirit.
A rota is used to determine who will greet worshippers at the doorway.
Praise at our morning services is usually chosen by our minister however other members have responsibilities in this area of worship. During vacancies or for visiting speakers the organist chooses suitable praise and worship which can be accompanied on our church organ. It is the case however that a music group which may consist of piano, keyboard, flute, guitar, bass guitar and trumpet are utilized to enhance the praise. The choir lead the praise from the front and are actively involved especially during special services where new songs and anthems are included in the service.
A data projector is also used to project the words of all songs so that members of the congregation may wholeheartedly join in the praise and worship of God. Most songs are also in the Mission Praise or Hymn books for those who may have difficulty viewing the projected display. If a song is being used which is not in either book, it is usually printed on the announcement sheet.
The children’s talk is carried out at the front of the church where the speaker usually comes down from the pulpit and meets the children face to face. They then return to their seats and remain there until the third song when children under a particular age leave for children’s church.
It is the aim of session to include as many as possible actively in worship through the public reading of the Bible and prayer.
Following our morning worship, a cup of tea is available in the church hall for further fellowship and interaction. Currently this is only provided on a fortnightly basis.
Service Format – evening worship.
Since we are a joint charge with Hilltown, the service venue is held at alternate locations. The format is less formal with the service being held in the church halls.
This service is preceded by prayer at 6.00 pm and a time of praise from approximately 6.15. The songs to be used are projected and the singing is heartily engaged. Many visiting speakers have commented on a number of positive aspects of our evening services.
Even though we are small congregations in relative terms, the numbers at our evening services usually ranges from 80 upwards including a large number of young people. This is to be encouraged and we tend to use praise which enthuses our young people to participate in the worship. Again the music group lead the praise with specific members choosing the songs for the praise time at the beginning. This is an opportunity to learn new songs and enjoy some of the older ‘redemption’ type hymns.
Service Format – Midweek fellowship.
Again our midweek is a joint venture and is held at alternate venues.
Even though our midweek has smaller numbers attending than 5-10 years ago, it is still well attended in relation to the size of the congregations.
The format of the midweek has changed slightly during our last ministry and now we conclude the bible study and teaching with a time of prayer. Before this we had a specific night for prayer.
There is usually a cup of tea afterwards for further fellowship and encouragement.
Prayer meetings are held on Saturday mornings at 8.00 am in Clonduff hall.
There is a prayer time after our midweeks where the attendees divide into smaller groups and worship God through prayer and also petition for the needs of the congregations and the people in the area.
There is also prayer before our morning worship (The session and preacher pray together before the service) and before the evening service commences.
Special weeks of prayer are organized usually at the beginning of the winter work (September) and in January.
