Youth Club - weekend 2006

From 3rd to 5th February the Youth Club headed off to the Faith Mission Centre located on the Mahon Road just outside Portadown. This was our first outing to this venue and it certainly won't be our last.
Approximately 40 of us stayed for the two nights with some folk arriving on the Saturday evening and staying over.
Our speaker for the weekend was Jonny Campbell who presented the gospel in a relevant way to the young people. He emphasised the reality of sin, the problem of sin and the solution for sin using multimedia presentations.
Despite a late night/early morning, the boys headed off to the driving range on Saturday afternoon. This was a dangerous activity as some of the balls we were hitting didn't necessarily go forwards! Some guys who were already practising on the driving range stated that they would need body armour after some of our lot started swinging their clubs. (Kyle Blakely managed to get some past the 150 yards marker - amazing!!)
Some of the leaders had to play a football match as it was the semi-final of a cup competition - the news came through - beaten 4-2 - D'oh!
Meanwhile the 'girlies' were amusing themselves with a shopping spree in Rushmere.

Adrian and Alison organised games on Saturday night after the talk, although some of the judging was questionable! Of course there was the obligatory late night 'chinese' trip although how anyone could eat any more after the sumptuous tea is questionable.

Emms organised the cooking over the weekend and everyone probably put on weight - the food was delicious and the portions were unreal. A big vote of thanks to Emms for undertaking this work, and to all who helped.

On Sunday morning we headed off to Richhill Presbyterian Church which was a step into a vision of what a church could be. A £1.6m complex that encompassed a youth centre, a sports hall etc. However it was the challenging preaching of Rev. Alistair McNeely which was the high point of the visit. We were warmly welcomed and had a tour of the complex afterwards. We all left on a high wondering what sort of vision we have for our own churches.

After a delicious lunch and a huge tidying up session, we finally arrived home at approximately 5.30 pm. Another successful weekend to remember.

Some photos are below.

Julie's team trying to create a 'masterpiece' sculpture  - on the way to losing in the overall competition.

(Somewhere in the middle of the paper there is a serpent - Junior pointing to the object!)

Close up of the serpent, such thought and imagination! Note the forked tongue!!

(The fact that the face is a picture of a dog is irrelevant!!)

Emm's team - their imagination stretched to 'a stick insect!' The sad thing was they were awarded more points than the serpent - how can this be! - And they won!!

Note the pensive Gavan! Debbie is just too distraught to participate any further!

Julie-Ann's team. The construction of a giraffe is well under way. In terms of creating the highest animal, they still failed - even though they placed their creation on the top of the netball stand!!!
THE JUDGE!! - Dr Dickson. (Biased methinks!!) ably assisted by her husband - (also biased!!)
Jason 'O'Sullivan' - his highest break for the weekend - 1.
Julie-Ann and Jenna in the kitchen.

Has anyone ever managed to get a photo of them facing the right way around?
